About Nomad Nate

I’ve wasted so much money on gadgets I could’ve paid cash for my rig.

About Nomad Nate

About Nate

I’m Nate. I live in a tin can with wheels and test gear so you don’t have to.

I’ve been camping for over 40 years, RVing for 30, and living on the road full-time (well, part-time full-time) for the last couple of years. That makes me the kind of guy who knows how to hook up a sewer line in the dark and when to just say screw it and use a bucket.

Before all this, I spent a couple decades in the U.S. Navy as a technician. That’s where I learned how to fix just about anything — because when you’re floating in the middle of the ocean, you can’t exactly call a service guy. (OK, sometimes you can — and by the end of my career, I was that guy on the other end of the line helping others figure it out.)

The point is: if I could learn how to maintain this 40-foot beast of a rolling condo, you can too. That’s part of why this site exists — to make the RV life a little less overwhelming and a lot more do-able, even if you’re new to it.

Why I Built This Site

Because I’ve wasted a ridiculous amount of money on gear. Like, “could’ve-paid-cash-for-my-rig” kind of money.

Some of it was great. Some of it was junk. And most of the reviews I read before buying were written by people who clearly hadn’t tested anything outside of a studio or their driveway.

This site is for folks who want the truth:

  • What gear actually holds up on the road
  • Which gadgets are worth the weight and power draw
  • What stuff breaks, rusts, overheats, leaks, or just straight-up lies to your face

No sponsors. No sugarcoating. If something sucks, I’ll say so. If it rocks, I’ll give you a link (yep, some are affiliate — but only for gear I trust).

What You’ll Get Here

  • Real-world gear reviews from actual campsites (not a backyard)
  • Road-tested hacks for making RV life easier, cheaper, and less annoying
  • The occasional curse-laced rant, when a $99 hose fitting explodes at mile marker 238
  • And a healthy dose of “If I figured it out, you can too”

So if you’re looking for fluff, filters, or Pinterest-perfect van life? Might wanna keep scrolling.

But if you want honest advice from a grumpy nomad with a good coffee setup and the scars to prove it — you’re home.

Welcome aboard.

Nate doesn’t like spam either — unless it’s fried in a cast iron skillet. Pick what you actually want below so he knows what to send your way (and what to leave back at the campsite).

You can unsubscribe anytime by clicking the link at the bottom of any email — no hard feelings (probably). For how your info is used, check the privacy page on the site — it’s not bedtime reading, but it’s all there.
